The Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti) is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, with Somalia at the epicenter of the crisis. More than 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, including 4 million children. Famine has been declared in parts of southern Somalia, and is likely to spread. Tens of thousands have died, and hundreds of thousands of children are at risk of death.
This is more than just a food crisis. This is a crisis for child survival. Unlike earthquakes and tsunamis, droughts are humanitarian dramas that unfold slowly – and children are the ones most at risk.
Working in the Horn of Africa for more than six decades, UNICEF is positioned to respond to the crisis and has scaled up relief efforts to provide children with life-saving assistance. UNICEF will continue to help children thrive in these countries long after the emergency subsides.
With Good Shirts, you will help UNICEF deliver life-saving assistance to children and their families affected by drought and famine in the Horn of Africa. Donations support therapeutic treatment for severe malnutrition, access to clean drinking water and better sanitation, vaccinations against measles and other deadly diseases that prey on the malnourished, and much more. The sooner we act, the more lives we can save.
