I hope you dont really eat the core. Appleseeds contain natural arsenic. Eating a cup of appleseeds over your lifetime will kill you.

It's that old saying that you shouldn't eat the apple seed or you'll grow one in your stomach.

It was just told by moms to forbid their little kiddies from swallowing small objects that they could easily choke on.

The saying is usually said around eating watermelon seeds though, that's maybe the confusion.

I may be wrong, but it's always a joke around anti-masterbation myths said to have stemmed from Catholic teachings and old conservatism that (specifically boys) who masterbated were vulnerable to a number of different things, most prominent was: you'll end up with hair growing on the palms of your hand ...from well, excessive use, and also, you'll go blind.

I didn't have the foggiest idea. I also originally missed that the tree was growing out of the boy, and then I thought that it was George Washington getting scolded for bringing his tree inside. But it didn't make sense because it wasn't a cherry tree. Apparently, I'm a moron.

At first I thought the message was: "don't draw on the walls".

I thought it was an elaborate interactive art piece where he put real apples on the floor and stood underneath the tree he drew, making some statement about art/life (art coming to life, art coming from life). I liked it better then.

Ste7en: no, they don't. They do contain something akin to cyanide, but that's quite an important difference. Arsenic is effective as a slow poison built up over a long time; cyanide isn't. Not to mention the fact that unless you're chewing on the seeds, they're likely to go straight through you.

elfy: thats funny you mention that, because I was just reading how many people originally thought it was arsenic and as such it has been passed on that way...which is why I was mis-lead.
