Are you a Marxist??.... whatever happend to good olde American Capitalism...
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 23 '05
No, I'm 100% capitalist and can't stand communism and I don’t agree with anything Marx wrote. It's really a hypocritical statement about consumerism. I thought it was funny, but I’m biased I guess.

By the way, thanks everyone that gave constructive criticism! Keep the comments coming; it's my first entry and would love to learn/grow.

The flag is dope, but you ought to let people have their own impressions on the meaning. Lose the text. It's like pointing your finger at someone, besides the fact that people obviously have to BUY your shirt...

"Consumer Whores"

it's all about that.
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 23 '05
ya, I actually had consumer whores first but changed it...

But I see the text gets no love. the text looks better "flat", but it seems the text isn't popular.

keep em' coming :)

JacobEstes on Feb 24 '05
The text is ugly and out of place, and this whole anti-capitalism thing is annoying.

You do realize that you are putting this on a shirt that is supposed to be sold right?
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 24 '05
JacobEstes, the text is a widley used font from a huge corp. and yes I do realize the shirt is going to be sold. have you read my other posts?

IRONY! IRONY!

a quote from an earlier post

"It's really a hypocritical statement about consumerism. I thought it was funny..."

People don't get jokes anymore?

I like it - I think keep the text but change the typeface and make it much smaller. Maybe change the numbers in the UPC code to read "consumer slaves." or "i'm a consumer slave" or something?
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 25 '05
i love that idea!

El Chupacabra
El Chupacabra on Feb 26 '05
This is well done, but the anti-American sentiment has gotten way out of hand. So I wouldn't wear it but I'll still give it a 3 for the time and skill that went into it.
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 27 '05
Thanks for your comments El Chupacabra... However, just for the record, no anti-american sentiments at all.

to all the people who said get over politics etc. that's the whole problem: YOU CAN'T get over it. If we get over it, then we'd be stripped of all our rights right in front of our eyes without knowing it. Not that the Patriot Act has most of that business sorted out for us already. Besides, this is a comment on consumerism, not exactly anti-US. Anyway, people are free to submit whatever, right, like those vomit inducing cutesy piglets of some sort. As long as those keep on coming, then allow the political shirts, too.

What I really want to see are some kick ass designs, though. If it has a message with it, then that's a plus.

Anyway, I'd lose the text. and plus points for the irony of the shirt. It's simple and hey, controversial. Maybe a bit smaller design, too, cos it would be a more subtle and have more kick to it when you realize it's a barcode.

I can't say I like this shirt at all, but I do have a specific piece of constructive criticism. The problem I am having with the graphic is that the proportion of blue to red of the flag is off. The blue field should come half way downthe flag and almost half way across. Just check a photograph of a real flag to check it out.
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 28 '05
themidtownkoala you are correct on the proportions. I didn't even take that in to account. Thanks!
cskelm
cskelm on Feb 28 '05
i like the concept, but it was good that koala pointed out the proportions. and politics good. once we stop making political statements we are indeed giving up the last freedom we have. I love the irony in this. if i could change anything (Aside from the proportions) I would suggest putting the words in the numericals of one of the barcodes, juts enough to be noticeable but not quite glaring upon us like that. The irony is great, and it is the best UPC flag i've ever seen. i give it a 4+$
Nilla
Nilla on Feb 28 '05
I think the irony here is that i posted a comment on the Digital Nation submission and low and behold here it is. I must say very poor execution, aside from the fact that you have no independenrt thought....
Griffology
Griffology on Feb 28 '05
Nilla, I'm glad you can evaluate my thought process or lack there of based on a submission of a t-shirt design. The design is a joke based on irony, and if it
lickthebladex
lickthebladex on Feb 28 '05
As much as I like the message, the design sucks balls.
BLIP98
BLIP98 on Mar 01 '05
All "irony" is lost based on the fact that we already know we're consumer slaves & it's no new message. UPC's have been done to death, sorry, but it's true.

Try to surprise people more w/your next submission.

(ps--I don't mind political work at all--in fact, I enjoy lots of it...but the excecution has to be original.)
